I just finished reading The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I absolutely loved it! It embodies every child's love for mystery and secrets, and it makes every little girl wish she lived in a 600 year old mansion with hundreds of unexplored rooms and a forbidden garden.
My favorite thing about it was that the underlying theme was how thoughts, good thoughts can change everything. This is a quote from the book that I thought was the best.
"One of the new things people began to find out in the last century was that thoughts--just mere thoughts--are as powerful as electric batteries--as good for one as sunlight is, or as bad for one as poison. To let a sad thought or a bad one get into your mind is as dangerous as letting a scarlet fever germ get into your body. If you let it stay there after it has got in, you may never get over it as long as you live."
I think I may have found my next read. I've always wanted to read it and have yet to see the movie.
ReplyDeleteOne of the few iconic novels I have yet to read too! I've been reading more intense ones lately... Crime and Punishment for example. CRAZY book. Don't know that I'd recommend it but I'm enjoying myself. LOVE YOU! -Devin
